ESET’s ongoing support of Ukraine

Next story

In this digital age, cybersecurity has become a top priority for individuals and businesses alike. Cybercrime is on the rise, and nowhere is this more apparent than in Ukraine. Despite ongoing conflict and instability, Ukrainian companies and citizens continue to face cyber threats on a daily basis. This is why ESET, one of the world's leading providers of cybersecurity solutions, has been working tirelessly to support the people and businesses of Ukraine.

From providing technical and financial assistance to raising awareness on cybersecurity issues, ESET is committed to standing in solidarity with the Ukrainian community. Let’s take a closer look at how ESET is making a difference in Ukraine and why its efforts are so important.

Is ESET a Russian company?

No. ESET is not a Russian company. ESET is based in Bratislava, Slovakia, and was founded by Slovakian IT professionals in 1992. Despite ESET's involvement in providing cybersecurity support to Ukraine in the face of Russian cyber threats, the company has no affiliation with Russia. In fact, we have stopped all sales in Russia. With a presence in over 200 countries and territories, ESET provides trusted cybersecurity solutions to millions of users worldwide.

How has ESET supported Ukraine?

ESET has a history of supporting Ukraine against Russian cyber attacks. We continue to support and stand united with our Ukrainian friends, colleagues and customers.

  1. We have stopped all sales of our products in Russia and Belarus.
  2. Our expert threat intelligence team constantly monitors and analyses cyber threats, including those emanating from Russia. Thus, they provided early warnings to Ukrainian authorities of any potential threats or attacks, helping them take proactive measures to prevent damage.
  3. All critical institutions and operators of critical infrastructure in Ukraine have been offered a free upgrade to our highest-grade solution.
  4. Between March and May 2022, we automatically extended expiring licences for consumers in Ukraine at no cost.
  5. We have developed specialised tools to mitigate the effects of specific malware and cyber attacks launched against Ukraine. For example, we created a tool that specifically targeted the BlackEnergy malware used in the 2015 Ukrainian power grid attack, allowing for successful remediation of the threat.
  6. We discovered Industroyer2, multiple wipers, worms, ransomware families and a malware loader in Ukraine. We continue to monitor.
  7. As part of our efforts to support the affected regions, to date, the ESET Foundation has donated 1,277,700 Euros to the relief fund to provide humanitarian assistance to the citizens of Ukraine, including donations to the Integra Foundation, a charity supplying food and necessities to Ukrainians at war, UNICEF Ukraine, the City of Bratislava and others.
  8. We have partnered with various government agencies in Ukraine to provide cybersecurity assistance and build resilience against cyber threats. ESET's cybersecurity experts have worked with the Ukrainian police and government agencies, providing training and support on protecting against cyberattacks, detecting threats, and mitigating their impact.
  9. We support the Ukrainian cybersecurity community by participating in various cybersecurity conferences, seminars, and events. These events aim to build awareness and educate the cyber community on the latest threats, trends, and countermeasures, ensuring that the community is well-equipped to fight against cyber threats.
