ESET Partners with OPSWAT through Metascan Online to Increase Malware Detection

Next story

OPSWAT and ESET today announced that ESET’s antivirus scanning engine will now be included in OPSWAT’s Metascan Online. The partnership will help to improve Metascan Online, by including the malware detection capabilities of the ESET engine to the site's scanning process. In turn, OPSWAT will provide ESET with malware samples from the files uploaded to Metascan Online. With the help of thousands of samples a day, ESET has yet another means of identifying newly emerging threats and potential false positives.

OPSWAT, the industry leader in software management SDKs, interoperability certification and multiple-engine scanning solutions, provides Metascan Online as a free web based demo of its Metascan multi-scanning technology. Users can visit the site and upload files to have them scanned by many antivirus engines simultaneously. Available to anyone, Metascan Online receives and scans thousands of files a day. Currently the service uses 17 antivirus engines, although the amount of engines included is constantly increasing.

Through its extended partnership with OPSWAT, ESET receives information about the potential threats or false positives reported by the engines included in Metascan Online, in addition to the global samples it receives on a daily basis. By comparing its detection to that of the other engines included in Metascan Online, ESET can identify new malicious files or potential false positives to continually improve their engine’s detection and performance.

“ESET is pleased to establish this collaboration with OPSWAT,” said Pierre-Marc Bureau, senior malware researcher at ESET.  “This exchange of valuable information will further ensure the security of our users and the optimal performance of our antimalware products.”

ESET also partners with OPSWAT by licensing its engine to be a part of Metascan, as well as through the OPSWAT Certification Program, which verifies applications’ compatibility with leading technology solutions.

“We are happy to partner with ESET through Metascan Online,” commented Tausheet Antani, CTO at OPSWAT. “Their engine is a great addition to the service, and we are happy to share the invaluable data that is collected through Metascan Online.”

OPSWAT’s Metascan Online sample sharing program is a valuable asset to antivirus vendors in their continuous effort to improve malware detection rates and provide customers with the most thorough and relevant antimalware products on the market.
